I was having this same issue, but I believe I have a fix for you. At least this is what fixed it for me. When I tried to run the program from command line I had the same issue of it not being compatible. I tried to do it as fast as I could to change the compatibility before explorer errored again. Unfortunately this did not help either. What I was able to do to fix this issue, was...If you browse through the smitfraudfix folder, wherever it saved it the first time you tried running it, there is a Genericrenosfix.exe. I don't know why but I just decided to give this a try on a whim. This worked great. It said that if found the file and deleted it. I was about to boot into windows without any explorer.exe errors multiple times. When I realized the fix had worked, I went in and removed any traces of the program I had installed that caused this error. For me it was VirusProtectPro.

Its nice that you seem to have gotten rid of it.
But smitfraud imbeds itself in the registry and creates instances of itself throughout the computer. Deleting the folder simply will not get rid of it.
