So a few years ago I spilt water on my laptop and it died :( It wouldn't start up not even after a few months. I got a new one in the mean time. Anyways last night I started it up and it powered on, came up with the ACER screen, did some scanning thing and told me there was no operating system.

Is this just a case of reinstalling Windows, I'm not sure I still have the disk?

Which laptop? The one that died because of the water or the new one you bought?

Could be a corrupt OS or faulty hard drive.

Yeah the hard drives probably still pretty screwed from all the water, try placing it near a radiator in a room thats not to humid (if you've got a dehumidifier shove that in) but don't put it actually on the radiator just next to it, balancing on the screen and main part, with the bottom facing the radiator about 2cm between them.

Not something to rely on, you should be careful with water around electronics, but just leave it like this for a while to dry out some more and then try again, it may surprise you.

I doubt it. The water probably fried the hard drive IMO. Swap it, re-install the OS and hey presto.

Ah, well I didn't realise it was that old

Could be worth a try, depends on storage conditions.

But to be honest even if it had happened a month ago it would be unlikely to work again.

If you havn't got aciidental damage cover then try reinstalling an OS or replacing HDD and then installing OS

But if it's that old it might not even be worth bothering.

EDIT: Sorry Dave, posted at same time.
