you know, you could get defraggler and Ccleaner.
Those would probably help. |

Morning,
I hope you can help with problems I am experiencing following the format and re-installation of XP. From the device manager it would appear that I have a problem with a PCI Simple Communications Controller as the icon is marked yellow and I believe I have problems with the monitor/video card as although I don’t have the yellow mark against it the icon and the text is larger then before the re-install and there is no detail in the monitor section of device manage just default monitor? I have tried to load the drivers from the installation CD and searched online for updates but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks Andy |

assuming you have defragged, cleaned standard stuff.. (ie tempory files, etc)
most people forget that %windir%\Prefetch gets full too... just remove everything in that folder:) 5 yrs is old for a pc. Will have a lot of dust in it, open up, clean the thing:) check if fans are turning and components aren't getting too hot memory could also be getting too old, since 2x2gb is sold almost for free at the moment, buy! |

Yes I have completed the re-install and the computer is running much quicker.
The only problem now seems to be with the monitor/video card as although I don’t have the yellow mark against it in the device manager the icons and the text are much larger then before the re-install although I have altered the screen resolution its still not the same as before. Provided the video card doesn’t cause any other problems I can live with it. |

also you want to look for something called DPI, this can change your font size, if that is what your looking at changing, dont forget to leave your HDD Defragmanting during the night or whenever you want to leave it on to complete, since reinstalling XP would of caused all your files to be spread all over the place, also makesure you have adaquate antivirus, firewall, and all the latest updates from windows, this will increase the amount of time before XP begins to slow back down like before
