Cheers everybody

I have lots and lots of programs installed?

Any of you encountered this problem before, and if so how did you get the list back?

I ran msconfig a couple of days ago and ticked off all the programs which were not Microsoft components in order to make my computer startup more quickly...
Don´t know if my doing there was the source of my problem now..

The operative system is XP

Well hope you can help me.

Here is a possible fix.
I have quoted someone but dont quote me.lol
Quote:
Control Panel - Icons Missing
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Look in the right pane and you'll see the Control Panel Icons that have been disabled. You can either right click on the "don't load" subkey and select Delete to restore all disabled icons, or you can right click on each of the items in the right pane and select Delete to selectively restore them. Scroll up to Control Panel Applets for a listing of what each one is.

The change will be seen the next time you open Control Panel.

Also msconfig should be used for trouble shooting.

To control startup items use a startup manager like StartUp 1.3

Nope that didn´t work Krill, but thank you for trying though :)

When i go to the folder there is one of them that i can´t delete it reads "standard" the type "REG_SZ" and its value says "not defined"

Could this be the problem?

And if so any possible "fixers"? :)

Best Regards:

Hej Evil Fantasy

Thanks for the advise :) startupmanager now downloaded :)

But there´s one thing I don´t understand and that how i could mess this up if i didn´t tick off any windows aplications? I even used the function "hide Windows aplications"

How long ago did this happen?

You could do a system restore to get it back.

I once followed a thread that dealt with a similar problem to this. Troubleshooting it lasted for days and about 6 pages worth of posts and I don't remember if it was ever tracked down on how to fix it properly.

Actually I don´t know how far back this problem goes.

I don´t use that specifik list very often. it could be a month or so.

I don´t really know excatly what a system restore means.

Would it mean that I had to give up everything I put onto the computer (Pictures, Videos, Documents etc.?) or what excatly does it entitle?

Heh, I´m almost ashamed of the limits of my knowledge :) But as a wise man once told me:

"A wise man is a man who knows exactly what he does and does not know"

System restore. On your desktop right click My Computer > Properties > System Restore.

It is a tool used that in case something goes haywire you can revert the system back a few hours or even a few days to the exact way it was. No loss of data unless you had installed something between the restore points.
