 Missing file prevents startup - hal.dll
When starting up my computer I get this error message just after the acer screen and gpu information.
<windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall
(or something similar to that)
You can't go any futher than that. If you press a key the system restarts and the same happens.
I have got a disc for xp professional but reinstalling that means that I would loose all my documents wouldn't it, and these I haven't backed up.
Please help, any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking a system restore would be a possibilty but how do I do that without losing documents.
I have got two 160gb hardrives in there so I could leave the one with my docs and the current windows alone and reinstall xp on the other one?
HELP!?
