I'm new to the form so this is my first time posting and I'm not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
I work for a big collage and they have put me in charge of 70+ computers in their classrooms. I can get windows updates to work just fine with out me having to go to each machine and install them manually. The problem I have run across is when it comes time to install a special software or to upgrade a special software. It can be a timely process to go to each machine and install the piece of software. Even creating a master image and re imaging the machines would be a timely process, but that wouldn't work for me due to that not all of the classrooms have the same software on all of them. We have tried Thin clients and dummy terminals but we have had nothing but problems with them due to some of the software that we have running on some of the machines. An ideal solution would be to have a server with all of my "images" on it and when and instructor goes to log into the computer it pulls the image from the server and puts in onto that computer. Or to have the "images" on the server and have them pushed to the machines every day or every month. I'm not looking to have the OS streaming from the server but have it running off the local machine. Hopefully I have provided enough information. Any kind of help with this would be greatly appreciated. |

What you have said is exactly what you need to do, you need a server.
I never got to this in my studies but you use Active directory and group policy on windows to push applications to terminals or users. you create msp or mst files and assign it somehow. This link below covers it I think, good luck! http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...lications.html |

As Mr. Communiq said, you will need a server.
You can create GPO's (Group Policy), to add machines into the groups. You restart the machine and hay presto, when the machine boots up it shows "Installing Managed Software". However some special software like we have in the office, is unable to be installed via GPO. |

Yes, we do have a server setup already with Active directly and what not. The network group people take care of that, I'm part of a different department. Before I came on board, they tried SmS but were having alot of problems with it. Right now we have Deep Freez to keep our computers they way we want them with out the end user messing them up. And we use ABTurtor control and UltraVNC to remote into the computers to help people remotely. So Yes we do have a server setup already but the Active directory solution doesn't seem to be working correctly with the software that we need to install and upgrade.
