Hi, recently, I tried to log onto my computer but my account had a password on it. I tried multiple times to type it in but it was not being accepted for some unknown reason. I made sure caps lock was off as my password hadn't any letters in it in caps. Soon, i formatted the computer in a way that the files wouldn't be lost as I needed them so importantly. Now my computer is working properly, however, all my programs and files and pictures etc. have een lost! I know this because when I go into properties from c:/ it displays 100GB used space and around 20 GB free! I've used all the search methods to try and find the files but no luck. Recovery software won't work either as the files were never deleted. CAN AYBODY PLEASE HELP
. Thank you for taking your time reading this.

Make sure they are not hidden for some reason.
How to view hidden, system files & folders Windows XP * Right Click Start. * Select Explore. * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. * Select the View Tab. * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types option. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Click Apply. * Click OK. Once done re-hide your protected files. |

I've tried all the above already and also unchecked the boxes stated. Even after that I went into docs and settings but still no luck with all the missing gigabytes. I have no clue about what to do. Please help me! Could it be a partition problem? If yes, how can I check?

Have you tried going to the location in safe mode? If you know any of the file names you could try doing a search in windows to see if it brings up any file locations.

There are also some progs out there that breakdown where all the space on your hard drive is going - they show a file tree and and number of MBs being used up. You could use something like this to try and track them down. I used to have one as part of another program but unfortunately I cant remember the name. If you go to somewhere like www.download.com and do a search on something like 'hard drive file usage' you will be able to find a program that does this. This hopefully should help you. it could be that your files got renamed somehow. My System: The Elephant
