Default Need experienced OS person

Do anybody knno anything about the recovery D: partition on dell laptops,i got a second hand laptop (vista HB) and was full of virus and stuff,i formatted the c: with xp,the d: partition is 10 gig with about 5 gig filled,no i want to switch back to vista,ive tried looking at advanced boot options but it wont give me recovery options,is it possibe that i can restore vista again on the c: if i dont have cd/dvd? any help will do so fire away guys

im finished work at 6 so i'l check it out,think i tried that but nothing came up,if i installed xp with sp1on to the c: will that change the bios/advanced menu?

Wait, are you absolutely sure it has a recovery partition? Vista laptops usually don't.
