I've been reading about the differences between OEM and RETAIL Operating systems. from what I understand, the OEM can be used once only, and if the OS. has to be reinstalled you have to purchase another OEM Disc. The retail version can be reinstalled more then once providing, it is installed on the same computer, or a different one as long as it is on one computer only, at a time? I'm getting ready to build another tower but, I don't want to buy OEM if it's only good for one install even, on the same computer just in case of a total crash. could someone please, clear this up for me so I know what version to buy? The computer will be my personal backup burning DVD's etc.
ps. I am running a retail version of XP Home 32 bit which I purchased for my first build, at this present time.

Not entirely true. You can install OEM loads of times, even if m/soft restrict it you can ring them up and get a reset.

OEM normally means... no box, no manual and no support. For a cheaper price.

I never have and never will buy a Retail OS. Just no point IMO.

Am I right in thinking that you can only buy OEM software if a piece of hardware is included in the sale? Or is that not the case anymore.

That is the idea, it's meant for sale with new systems or an upgrade. Most places send it on it's own but if it's a problem buy an IDE cable or something.

Yeah, retail is horrendously overpriced, so fair game imo. Thanks.
