Bbought new Acer Aspire on Saturday with Vista Home installed. After a mammoth struggle to get my stuff from old PC onto new one, finally up and running. EXCEPT try as I may I cannot get the screensaver to operate nor the power settings to turn the monitor off. I've been thru the process upteen times with various screensavers but when I choose 'settings' I always get a box saying there are no settings available. Never had anything like this before. Not a major fault but it's driving me dotty that I can't fix it. The preview window works but it won't come on, and the power settings are available but don't operate.
    Any ideas please?

Sorry folks, just seen the post below with identical problem. Will try a wired up mouse tomorrow.

Installed wired mouse - problem solved!.
Now all I have to do is decide whether it is worthwhile ditching the convenience of the wireless mouse in favour of screensaver and power setting facilities.

    Strange solution.

Are you sure that's what did it? You didn't install any updates or anything at th same time?

A Vista Update or Service Pack would be much more likely to resolve it.
