I'm back and still none the wiser about PC's!
Need a bit of help and apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I was recently given a computer from the IT people at work when they got newer ones installed and needed rid of the older ones. Anyway, the PC boots up fine but then hit the "Novell" username/password area as if it is still in function as a student computer. The IT girl gave me a Windows XP disc for wiping this off, but even though I put it in the disc tray it makes no difference. I can get in to setup but am pretty clueless as what to do. Surely I have to boot from disk or something like that? Any help greatly appreciated! |

You can get into XP setup from the disc?

Yes, set your boot order to search the cd drive first, put your disk in restart and follow the instructions on when installing.

I got into setup my pressing F8 or something, I don't think it has anything to do with the XP disk! When I am in the setup area do I find the "boot from CD" option there?? Thanks in advance!

It's probably not an option but a queue sort of deal with each device being in the list as #1 priority, etc. Just switch it around so that the CD drive is at the top.
