hello everyone.
Ive had my fujitsu laptop a long time, but recently while automatically updating xp online it stated NOT GENUINE
and gave me 30 days to buy one at £95-00 apparently i bought it not knowingly with xp professional installed
when the
seriel number underneath the laptop is for home edition.
Ive borrowed a home edition cd but still wont accept my legitimate licence number
what do i need to do to get my xp home edition legal

Call Fujitsu and get the recovery CDs for your machine, they will match your license number on the base of your machine.

dont want to even try them as ive just had a quick look on there web site and this is what ive seen .

We will provide software related support to pre-installed software only, which will include 'basic' troubleshooting of Windows installations, components, drivers and connectivity but excludes diagnostics, installation or configuration of any additional 3rd party software introduced at the time of, or after purchase.
i reckon it'll be a waste of time

Suit yourself, however that is your only option short of buying a new Windows CD and license.

They do supply recovery CDs, I have obtained them before.

Could try eBay for the recovery CDs too, just make sure you get the ones for your exact system.

i reckon thats the way to go then, cos i aint having a gamble on eb-- , only to find later that it wont update etc.

i will give fujitsu a ring tomorrow i just dont like the idea of 60p per minute which normally takes longer than 1/2 hr .

then again its going to be cheaper than the £95-00 they ask for validating the xp pro thats on now.
Thanks for your response it really is appreciated.

Update works based on your CD key not the CD, all you are getting off eBay is the recovery software for your machine. Then you use your legitimate license no. with it.

im still a little confused.
I borrowed my friends home edition upgrade disc including sp2, after formatting my hd, it installed with his licence No.
but would not install with my licence No. which leads me to think each disc has a different number.
Am i correct in thinking this ?

otherwise it means my license on fujitsu c1020 is not legit.

That version of XP you borrowed is different to the version fujitsu supply.

Individual discs are not matched to licenses but different versions of XP are.

That is why you NEED your make and model specific recovery discs that will then work with YOUR license on the bottom of the machine.

Hmmmm,
just been on the 09068-633416 @ 60p minute she, passed me onto 01925-251608 and they told me yes i can have recovery disc at £47-00 . I think this is very steep when i do have the original licence Number on the back of the Laptop and i could by the full home edition etc from MS at £95-00,
Any other suggestions are welcome
i did ask her to confirm that it would accept my licence number before buying,
all she could say was ,
not sure you would have to speak to the tech guys.
So it could be £47-00 wasted .couldnt it ?
by the way Dave i do apprecite the help youve already given.
Many thanks
