NTLDR Missing, won't boot up?!

Hi Guys
I now get this message on trying to boot up my computer, I have tried booting up with the Windows XP disc, I have also tried make a boot disc with bcupdate2 (I was told it would fix it). I have run out of ideas and desperately hope someone can shed some light on it. Unfortunately I don't know what might have caused it but will be sure to do a virus scan, adware scan, defragment and cleanup when i'm able to boot up again.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
Cheers
jack

did you make any hardware changes up to 3 days before it happened? try re seating the cables, have you backed up your data? and what happens when you use the boot disk, does it just return to the ntldr missing page and you will need to change the "boot order" in your systems BIOS to first select the Floppy/cd Drive (sometimes called "Removable Media Drive") if not already done mistakes happen :P

May we have a bit more information? Are these ATA or SATA disks, RAID or not, does the machine have a floppy drive / CDROM / DVD? If you mention the motherboard we can bear in mind strange disk drivers it might have been using. Were there multiple partitions that you're aware of, can you estimate whether your system drive was near full?

The bit about floppy disks is that the floppy drive ought to be empty. I'd check the CDROM / DVD is empty too and that you haven't got a memory stick in any USB or special card memory slot.

Boot of an XP CD and do the SECOND repair option, all data will stay intact.

NTLDR Missing, won't boot up?!

Hi Guys
I must have somehow changed the boot priority because the harddrive was the initial boot device silly me!
Now i'm able to get through to the recovery console (David I couldn't see a 2nd repair option?) and start on the commands

FIXBOOT, answer Yes
CD \
ATTRIB -H NTLDR
ATTRIB -S NTLDR
ATTRIB -R NTLDR
ATTRIB -H NTDETECT.COM
ATTRIB -S NTDETEC.COM
ATTRIB -R NTDETECT.COM
COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

from this link <Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>

all was going well until I got to ATTRIB -H NTLDR
then it came back with the system cannot find the fie or directory specified.
A friend suggested FIXMBR but didn't help either.
If it wasn't for the fact that I have 265GB of data and multimedia on my computer I would do a fresh install, but would like to leave that as a last resort!

Forgot to answer your questions guys, I don't currently have a floppy drive installed so have disabled that from BIOS

Both dvd writer and hardrive are SATA

The motherboard i'm using is an ASUS p5E

I believe you can retrieve data from your hd? not 100% sure how to though so find someone who can guide you on doing that then fresh install.
