Default Which Operating System?

Hi guys,

Next year I am probably going to be taking over as soundy at school and shall use my laptop for doing sound from (running the sound cues, audio files etc.). I shall also be using it when playing in the pit to trigger the MIDI cues (basically trigger the voice to save me hunting around) on my synth.

The laptop is about to get formatted to wipe it clean now I am settled with my new computer and everything is off it. However the question has arisen as to what would be the best OS to use on it? I would have a main partition with XP home on it anyway, but then a smaller partition (of say 10GB) for use in the pit and sound. However, I can't decide which to use - 2000 or XP home. It would be on a separate partition and would have everything disabled except the audio programs and wouldn't have any AV software and wouldn't be connected to the internet.

So guys - what do you use or what should I use and why?

XP Home
200 Professional?

Part of me is thinking 2000 because the requirements are less and it is older so more stable etc. I have also noticed they use 2000 quite a bit in the west end for running sound.

Thanks guys

Tom

EDIT: Thought I had better state a couple of system specs - 1.4GHZ Celeron M processor with 512MB (soon to be 768MB) of RAM.

The only reason I would run 2000 is if the spec of the machine is low.

I would say, with those specs, go with 2k, for doing that (I know because I used to do it before leaving the school) you need as lag-free working as possible, and XP can use up quite alot of resources, so if you have 2000, use that, I don't see any problem with not doing.

The thing is, I have been told by pros in the industry that 2000 has some USB problems and sometimes forgets that USB devices are plugged in.

The machine came with XP Home when it was shipped.

Thanks

I'm afraid Linux isn't an option as the software I use is windows only, and I don't really want to learn new software. I don't fancy running under WINE either.
