Hi, I have just formatted my friends computer as it originally came with Vista but only 512MB RAM and so was running very slow. I installed XP Professional for him and Service pack 2 but when I start to install programs and I need to reset and Windows reloads the mouse and keyboard freeze and nothing happens. Anybody and idea why it is doing this? I just had to reformat and get back into the boot screen and couldnt do anything else. Cheers

More RAM might have been another solution, but I haven't met this one before, although I did put XP on a PC once, took it back to the customer, plugged in their USB keyboard and it wouldn't work, nor were there any XP drivers for it!

Are the keyboard and mouse USB? Can you enter Device Manager and see if the drivers are correctly installed? (Right click My Computer and then Manage and select Device Manager.)

So many people downgrading PCs from Vista to XP without making sure they have all the necessary drivers for their PC first.
Come on people a bit of forethought saves alot of hassle!
Find out what motherboard you have and go to the manufacturers website and hope they have XP drivers for it.
I say this because the motherboard might be missing chipset drivers etc and the problem is probably nothing to do with keyboard/mouse drivers.

Yep .... a safer way would be to create a dual boot system, then if all is not well, at least you have Vista to fall back to.

Some new Laptops will be making great doorstops otherwise

I guess you can always put Vista back again.

Does it have an XP compatibility mode? lol
