ok, my computer has been acting up for the last few months. when i play games it crases after about 20 minutes or less and every hour or 2 gives me bluescreens with loads of different messages every time like 'system_service_exception', 'Page_fault_in_non_paged_area' and it sometimes mentions 'dxgkrnl.sys'

i have the latest nvidia drivers installed, i have the latest directx installed, i have the reccomended nividia vista patches installed, i have tried a number of things in my bios, i have tried disabling sound and lost more but i cant figure this out.

the main games the crash the most is bioshock, medal of honor and halo 2 but all of the games crash eventually. my graphics card is an 8800gts overclocked edition, i have onboard sound and an athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor.

so please help me someone as this problem is really depressing!!

A friend of mine has the 880GTS and has had the same issues as you, running Vista.
He tried all sorts and was pulling his hair out.

In the end he reformatted the HDD and created a dual-boot set up with XP & Vista.
When in XP all works perfectly, but when he switches to Vista, back come all the problems.

He is convinced it is either a Driver issue or compatibilty issue.

Uderstood, but I think the 'dxgkrnl.sys' error you have been getting is directx 10 related.

Why not try a dual boot set up, if you revert to XP. That way, when NVIDIA finally sort out the driver, you will be up and ready. I know it takes time, but there can be other benefits having both OS's.

Hmmmmm. that's a shame. Have you not got a spare HDD you could swap the Vista one with and store the Vista one until things improve. You never know SP1 may include something or NVIDIA might get their finger out.
