To be honest even if i get you started you going to run into major problems when you come to doing the drivers and other bits to get the system working.

As you are a complete novice I'd advise getting a professional to do it,should only take them an hour and a half and should cost you around £60+.

I agree with what Dave Hybrid said.

If you really want to try and do it yourself and think that you can do it I will help. I think that you're going to have driver issues and things like that though.

What OS came with this computer originally?

you will have driver issues....look on your motherboard and look for its name..download its manual..then see wot the biggest prossesor it can handle and ebay it try if you can get at east a 2GHZ prosessor and it will run soo smooth and fast :) also consider poping some extra ram in there up2 512mb minimum..but should run fast enuf with wot memory youv already got:)

my 2'4GHZ amd xp prossesor cost me £28 of ebay so bargain around :)

this is only the way for you as id be very surprised if you dont get driver issues :)

Ouch! I agree with what's been posted. It will be much easier for you to scout around for bargains and upgrade your pc rather than rolling back your OS from XP to 2000.

Also for the quote David got you of £60 for a professional to do it you might aswell use that money to upgrade your system.

There are plenty of motherboard bundle offers that include mobo, cpu and ram for dirt cheap, ebay will be your best bet.
