Print Spooler Service Not Running!

Hi,

In the last few days my printer programme has been removed from my PC. I have a Dell, Windows XP. When I try to add printer, the message appears saying 'operation could not be completed. Print spooler service not running'. I was without an Anti Virus for a week or so when my AVG expired but today have installed latest AVG addition.

Can someone please advise as to the best action to take?

Additional information to my first post.

Here is my Log if it helps, also I've noticed that I have a spoolerlogs file in my CDrive. Not sure if just to delet it or not. As you will see from below I have CCleaner installed and can run a registry search but not sure which entries to fix.

if you've not had antivirus for a week or so it might be a virus, but im the wrong person to ask about that.

go into control panel, administrative tools, services. scroll down until you find print spool. its status should be started, and its startup type automatic. if its not, double click it to change it. you might have to reboot for this to take effect, sorry, i cant remember

I tried what you advised but unfortunately although Automatic status is on the default, that is ok, but the under the other column keeps moving away from the started option.

I went to Services and changed in it to 'started' a couple of times and rebooted but the problem is still there it keeps moving away from the started category.

Not sure what to do at all.

Also ever since this probelm arose, whenever I start up my computer I get the message from Microsoft.

'Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close' Do you want to send error report or don't send.

Please! Help!!
