I tried to install a new OS on a laptop whose cd drive didn't work, so I used an external dvd-rom drive which hooked up through usb. The problem is that it seems to not have fully installed and won't boot up from the external drive.
In the boot menu, the possible options are from a cd, hdd, fdd, or lan. Is the only possible solution to fix the internal cd drive to get the cd to boot?? The model is Toshiba Tecra A4.

Is there not an option to boot from USB?
Does the drive work with other computers?

If the bios has no option to boot from USB, then you will need to replace the dead internal CD/DVD Drive.
