hope iv'e posted in the correct place. on switching on my sons computer after several seconds it tells me windows did not start succesfully and gives me options .
start windows normally, last good configuration etc, but no matter what option i choose i wind up back at this same page over and over. any ideas before i pull out what remaining hair i have. cheers

Sounds like corrupt windows files.
You need to run a check disc on the drive, by using and windows CD, a live CD or by putting the drive in another machine.

excuse my ignorance but how do i do a chk disc if i keep going back to the same page, also it's a second hand comp with vista installed and i dont have the cd.
