Laptop is dell, about 2 years old. I've never had any serious problems at all. I have 2 laptops. The 1 in question is used stationary with a mouse and external monitor.

I have a modem provided by my ISP and use a Linksys router.

I was having problems with my internet. Pages would not load and i had to wait a few minutes or flip the modem on or off. This is not unusual. My ISP sucks.

It was doing it a lot yesterday, more than normal. I 'restarted' the computer and as it was logging off it said 'Conflicting Ip address's on this system(or something like that)." It then restarted fine. It was working fine for hours then the internet acted up and it was 'shut down.'

When turning back on it starts up fine until it gets to my desktop. It then stays there, on my blank desktop page(no icons, totally blank) nothing happens. I should be getting the box to type in my password but it just stops. I have my mouse cursor though. Help?

How many computers are hooked up to the Linksys Router? The reason you're getting conflicting IP addresses is because two computers on a LAN (your Linksys Router) or the Internet have been assigned the same ip adrdess. If indeed you have other computers hooked up the Linksys Router, did you by any chanse configuer TCP/IP with Static IP address? If so I suggest that set it to automatic. The Linksys Router has it's own DHCP interface that will take care of assinging IP Addresses. As for your Internet Provider, who are you using? It sounds very unusual for your modem to turn on and off like that. Either your modem need to replace or it's the line that's giving you a problem. Check with your ISP.

Almost fogot. The reason you are getting the Logon screen is because at boot up, windows is searching for ip address that it could use and since you have confilcting ip address, that will make windows halt. Try to login on without the pluging in your cat-5 (Ethernet) cable.

I got it fixed through F8 > Restore.

I have 2 computers hooked up to it. The one with the problems has a cable from router to it. The one im on now is wireless. Your thoughts?
