I REALLY hope somebody here can help me.
I decided I wanted to restore my laptop to its original state, but couldnt remember which Fnumber to press at start up to be given the option to restore....SO, I found Toshiba Recovery Disks (a 2 disk box) and read that this would do just what I wanted...
I put it in my disk drive, and selected option 1, which then went up through 25%, 75% and finally 100% (after prompting me to put the second disk in half way through) Though I did panic at one point and cancelled it, so when I restarted it said Replace the Disk and press any key. So i realised i had to do it again, and see it through.

It completed it and told me to remove media and press ctrl alt del to restart. I did this, and thats when I really started to regret doing this (up until then I was congratulating myself for managing to get this far)
The first screen saying TOSHIBA came up, and then the screen goes black (as it always did) but THEN it comes up giving me options to either start normally, in safe mode or the last known good config. None of which work. If I select the last known config option thing, it first comes up 'Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM.
If I then select Last Known Good Config again, it comes up to click what I want to start, the only option is Windows XP Home Edition. I select it, and the dreaded blue screen appears. The technical information that appears there is:
***STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005,0XF749D0BF,0XF78B520C,0XF78B4F0C)

I have googled this over and over today, and have seen something about a Windows XP installation disk, which I dont have, the ONLY disk I have is is the Toshiba Recovery Disk.

If you have read this far, well done, if you can help me, THANK YOU!

What was your reason for doing this? It's possible that there could be a problem with your hard drive and the data from the cd's hasn't copied over correctly. Perhaps attempting it again will work provided the hard drive isn't faulty.

my reason for doing it was a number of things, one, my laptop having MANY things on it that no longer needed to be there, it was also going ridiculously slow, even after defrag and all.
I was also having problems with AOL, a few weeks back I went to sign on to it, to be told that the necessary files would be installed first, this confused me, so i allowed the laptop to do so, but kept getting the same message, even after restart. It turned out there was an issue with modem drivers not installing on my laptop. AOL couldnt solve it so I gave up, before thinking that maybe if i restored the laptop to its original condition, AOL would install and be fine, and the laptop would be faster.
Thats how I ended up in this situation. I did try the same thing again with the recovery disk, but still have the same problem -blue screen and windows not starting.

The first thing you should do is Google and get memtest and run it for at least 7 passes, any errors at all and your ram will need to be replaced.

Basically, i suspect you have a hardware problem of some kind.
