Hi. I have been having a recurring problem with crashes and freezes using Windows Vista 64-bit. The same thing happens every time: the screen and cursor freeze, and the sound skips rapidly. The only way to get out is to manually shut down the computer.

This happens when running various games (i.e. Civilization IV and Sins of a Solar Empire) and it has also happened while running the Cakewalk Sonar 8 demo.

SpeedFan shows that the GPU is running hot at 69 degrees at rest, while sometimes individual CPU cores run "warm" at 40-45 degrees at rest, and sometimes they approach 50 degrees when running intensive programs. Taking my specs (below) into consideration, how hot should these be running? Could this be the cause of these problems? If so, how do I go about resolving the issue?

Here are my specs:
Gateway LX-6810
Intel Quad Core 8200
NVidia GT 120 1 GB
8 GB RAM
Vista 64-bit SP2
