Default Reason for Display Settings Changing?

Hi everyone, This is probably a simple question to those experienced in computers but I would very much appreciate your assistance to this annoying blip on my laptop. For the past two days each time I have switched my laptop on the display has changed to very large icons and the screen resolution has changed from1024 x768 pixels to the lowest resolution. I have gone into Control Panel/Display/Settings and changed the settings back to what they should be. But the same thing happens the next time I switch on. It's never happened before and although simple to resolve, is annoying. Can anyone please help? Many thanks.

Did you install anything around the time this started happening?

Many thanks for your advice. It's quite a while since I installed any new software. I run daily Anti Virus (Nod 32) scans, and also SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot and Windows Defender scans. None show any problems.
