Hello,There seems to be some confusion while I've been trying to find the answer to this so thought I'd ask. I have a 4 year old Compaq Presario R3000 and I'm just about to replace the hard drive. Does this mean I won't be able to install XP with my recovery disks as from what I can tell recovery is not the same as installation. Does this mean that Compaq ships with the operating system on a partioned protected part of the drive and if this is so it is not accurate to sell the computer stating it comes with XP, it should read that the hard drive comes with XP installed and not the computer. Although I'm only going to use umbuntu on the new drive it niggles me and wondered if Compaq still have an obligation to supply me with the XP disks, as it's their drive that has failed. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this scenario....Thanks

Call Compaq and tell them you need your Operating System Disk.
They may charge shipping but you can still get it. You need your serial number off of the computer. |
