i did a reinstall of windows xp home yesterday.during the installation it gives errors on some file and has skipped the file from installing.now im experiencing slow startup problem.it stucks at 'windows is starting up' for 2 minutes and then another 2-3 minute on the welcome screen.tried running system file checker but still same.

When I've seen this in the past it was a faulty disc.

I believe it can also be caused by SATA HDD's not being set in IDE mode.

I would copy the CD. That worked for me.

Yes. I had a original that refused to work, file copy errors. I copied it and then the problem went away.
Basically the disc could be damaged but sometimes they copy just fine. It's worth a try, I would also make sure you completely delete the partitions and FULL format prior to install to make sure the hard drive is tip top. |

If it's the same files each time you try to install, than as mentioned it's probably a faulty Disk.

If, however, the files that cannot be read are different each time you attempt to install, it could be a Ram issue. If so and you have more than 1 stick of Ram, try removing one and try to install again, if no better swap them around .... or try different Ram. If files are skipped during installation, there is really no point in continuing with the installation, as there will more than likely be problems with the system. My System: Home Build
