If your pc came with Vista pre-installed then you should of recieved a disk with your PC saying Microsoft Vista Anytime Upgrade on the front of it. This DVD Actually contains your Vista O/S and if you insert that DVD into your DVD Drive and Boot from that like your going to install a new O/S then it will give you the option to Format, Scan Memory or Repair you Vista Operating System. If you click on Repair Vista (or something along those lines) then it will repair your operating system and find out why it had stopped working properley and repair it.
I had a problem with my laptop running on Vista where the battery went flat and i removed the battery overnight and came to use it the next day and the Vista O/S wouldn't boot at all so i just repaired it using the Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD and i didnt lose any data at all and has been completely fine since with no booting problems.
If this doesnt sort the problem out then i dont know what else i can suggest to try out so i hope this could be of some use to you.
