Hi all, I'm new here, so go easy on me!

It's a bit of a long story, but I really am stuck and have no idea what I can do!

I've just got my new computer up and running. My previous computer had a copy of Windows XP Home (genuine!) on it, which is now put onto this computer. I had two hard drives in my old computer - let's call them Drive 1 and Drive 2. My new computer has one hard drive, and I still have the two old drives here, with both of the old drives copied onto the single new drive.
Drive 1 had Windows on it, and Drive 2 was for data storage of music files.
I need to access Drive 1 for some of my data, such as AutoCAD drawings and Proteus ISIS and ARES schematic designs, which have taken a long time to create, but I cannot access these files, since I had a password on my old computer account (me being the "administrator").
If I take the old hard drive and put it into my HDD USB caddy to try to access the files, I get a message saying "Access is denied." I assume this is a security problem because of the old password being in force when that drive once ran Windows XP?
The files were not copied properly over to the new drive, since lots of my files and data are/is missing, so I cannot access them this way, either.
I know the password for the username for the Windows setup on Drive 1, but have nowhere to enter it!

I hope this all makes sense, I'm quite frustrated and seem to be getting nowhere! I've got all of the data I need, but I can't get to it!

If anyone could help me in the slightest, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

I don't have the "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" option, so I'm lost!

By the way - thank you for your reply!

Oops, yeah I forgot you're on Home and not Pro. Start the computer in Safe Mode, then log on using an user with administrator privileges (probably your usual one), then follow the regular steps there and you should be sorted.

http://brajeshwar.com/2005/file-acce...ake-ownership/ is what I should have linked in the first place.

Brilliant, that worked! Thanks!

Although there's just the other problems to deal with...

Every time I turn my computer on, I have to tell it the screen refresh rate and resolution, because it resets it to minimum. Sometimes explorer.exe fails to launch, and on occasion my audio driver fails to launch.
I also have to change the default input on the sound settings every time, aswell.

It's really winding me up.

If anyone could help with this one, I'd be grateful!
