Default Should I get VISTA: Home Basic with this...

...computer ... ? This computer currently has:- Intel Pentium 4 Processor- 2.53 GHz- 512 MB of RAM - 120 gigabytes of spaceI have read through some article claiming that there are several defects associated to Windows:Vista .. currently I have Windows Home Edition and I was wondering whether or not to buy a new OS. Should I wait for Windows to fix those problems or should I upgrade my computer to meet those requirements (1 gig RAM,etc ..) .. any suggestions/opinions?Many Thanks.

wait for the 1st real service pack to come out..that gives micrsoft time to work out the initial slew of kinks and bugs in Vista.

Short answer is no. Your system is fine and could handle vista. The problem lies in the fact that Microsoft does things backwards, they let everyone beta test their " Final Release" and then patch it to what would be a real final release level. I would wait for the first major service pack. As far as the version, I would stay clear of the home edition.

I wouldn't recommend it as others stated. Unless you have a real need to improve your current OS for usability or support for DirectX10 there is no reason to upgrade yet.Based on your specs, your system should handle Vista without much problem but I would recommend increasing your Ram to 1 GB. Also, Vista is a bit more graphics intensive so I would recommend a decent video card if you plan to make the most out of Vista.

You should only upgrade the RAM memory to 1 gb and I suggest you to get Home Premium it is the best Vista edition for home users. Enjoy in Aero - (there is no aero in home basic edition).
