Hi guys, i have 90GB free on my one and only partition (windows vista) with a maximum capacity of 250GB and when i try shrinking it i am only able to shrink it by 2GB - i want to shrink it by about 80GB, install xp pro on my new partition and transfer all files to my xp one (shrinking the vista one every 20gb) and eventually delete the vista partition so im left with one thats xp pro and 250GB with 90GB to spare. When shrinking my current partition (vista) i can only shrink it by 2GB - WHY?
thanks alot!! |

I doubt you'd be able to shrink by 80GB at all.

But try defragging first, may give some more shrinkage room. It's bacically because even though the drives not full, the data is spread out, and the biggest chunk it can dedicate to a seperate partition is 2GB. Either that or it's a format thing. ![]() And to be honest I still find all that very confusing (Active, primary, extended, boot blah blah blah..) So i it's that, somenoe else may be needed ![]() Philthomas is quite up on his HDD's and formatting if I remember rightly..

You will be better off using a third party program, such as Acronis Disk Director.
