Hey there,
I recently ran across some things just trying to get annoying programs (yahoo messenger) from reinstalling itself into the startup menu after I delete it. I figure this may help you out as well since alot of the problems with slow booting has to do with the startup. I'm using xp home edition so I don't think this is too much different, if even at all. Click your start menu, then click run and type "msconfig.exe" (without the quotations, obviously) and click on the startup tab, which should be the last tab. From here you can disable programs from running on your startup by unchecking and applying and then simply rebooting. Be careful on what you disable though or you could run into some nasty problems. I also found this website: http://www.processlibrary.com/ where you can simply type in the file names and it will tell you what the file is related to, what it does, etc. and its reccomendation for disabling it. Note that you do not need to know the file's extension (ie: if you're looking up explorer.exe, you need only type in explorer and it will search it and turn up as explorer.exe) this makes it very simple if the file extensions aren't labeled in the startup tab. Hope this helps. |

Start > Run > type Services.msc
You can stop or disable any service from there as well. |
