Have you got a seperate sound card or is it onboard sound ?

If on board, what is the make/model of your motherboard ?

If you dont know grab Everest Home and check out the make/model

This is common when you install XP. Just get all the drivers from the manufacturer's web site and install them. Installing SP2 might also clear the problem.
