hi guys, i have been told by a friend that to make vista faster and run smoother, i should install service pack 1 for it. is this true and what would you advise. is there service pack 2 for vista like you have for xp?

Yeah, I installed fine, it is recommended to do so.

Yea, it's recomended to Update, however as far as I know, there isn't a SP2 yet.

Yes, it's a good idea to download and install it, you can do so through the automatic updates if you have them enabled, if you don't you can download it from Microsoft update.

As for the wrong forum bit, the topic was moved allready (presumadly by Dave) as this is now in the "Windows operating systems" forum.

I have had SP1 on mine for just over a week, seems to ocassionally interfere with Kaspersky, which is my AV, preventing it from loading. Otherwise its fine.

Before installing SP1, all users running Windows Vista RTM (that is, if you bought your computer with Vista preinstalled) will need to install three updates from Microsoft. Microsoft's Windows Update will automatically detect and install these updates prior to the release of Windows Vista SP1. Two of these updates increase the success rate for installing Windows Vista SP1; one is necessary only if you have Windows Vista Enterprise or Windows Vista Ultimate installed.

Be patient, and don't download it once it becomes available. Wait until Windows Vista SP1 is offered to your PC via Microsoft's Automatic Updates service.

Eh? Its already available. And whats wrong with downloading it now? These things do get tested you know.

Its been on Automatic Updates since 25th May at least.

I shouldnt think there would be any major issues installing it first before getting the other updates. But a friend of mines alerted me that there could be some trouble with sp1 if installed 1st and also then i backed that up by reading a MS doc about installing sp1

In MS website it states,that its recommended to install 3 important updates before installing sp1.

In my case,i didnt get sp1 for 2days ,through auto updating. it gave me all the other updates first which included the 3 so called important updates before it released sp1 for my computer.

If you start from new o/s installed and get the first updates from MS then we wont get sp1 first,other updates have to be in place before they send you sp1.

Not sure if its that important really,but if the auto updating procedure gives sp1 last then there must be some truth in there statement.

That last post of mines was copied & pasted from MS site ,wasnt my words ,i just thought i would paste it just to show maybe of possible issues by installing sp1 first before getting the other ones

Has anyone installed sp1 first manually? Id like to know if its ok to install first,cos waiting on it to come through auto updates is a pain
