Evening All !
Got a question for all you computer buffs out there in cyberspace - Maybe one of you can advise me....... Since I upgraded from XP to Vista (HPE) i feel that the computer has slowed down considerably and my question is......... Those sites that promise to speed up your computer by way of registry cleaning etc etc Do they work and actually do what they claim?. Anyone got any experience of them?

I've had nothing but bad experiences of so-called registry cleaners. Other people might have a different story.

This is simply because these downloads tend to be setup for generic profiles, albeit a lot of them, not the registry relevent to your or my p.c.

Vista does take up a lot more resources than XP ever did. There's a standing joke that if you've got Vista, double it!

What are your system specs please? And are you noticing this 'slowdown' when running a particular application or game? Or is it just in general?

The registry is overrated as a speed tweak, in general, but it does get large and can contain many invalid references. The registry is not an area for even the average computer user to be playing around in. The good news is CCleaner has a safe registry cleaner built in, so why not clean out old, invalid entries?
Click the Registry button.
Click scan for issues.
Click fix selected issues.

Thats it, your done, a safe, fast registry clean.
I have just added a new Registry cleaner to our downloads section. Everything you need for this type of maintenance can be found there.
Windows Cleaners

Be very wary of any program not in our downloads section that reports multiple instances that need "cleaned".
You will end up with a crippled machine with no alternative other then reinstalling.

Hi again
Since reading yr response I followed a link in 'Window Cleaners' and ended up downloading 'Auslogics Defrag '
I must say i'm very impressed with the speed it defragged my 'C' drive - Much faster than the Vista built-in defrag utility which is sooo sloow
Thanks folks!

You ever had a try of Vista manager. I tried a trial and it's not too bad.
