Default Unable to boot from CD

Hi all.

I have this problem with a rather old PC (IBM Netvista 6578), in that when tryin to reinstall windows XP, it wont boot from CD. Which i find rather strange since ove installed XP on the computer before . The bios is very limited in boot order, which is either "try local drives first" or "try local drives then network".

Any ideas?

You may be able to boot from a floppy, then run the XP installer on the CD.

You don't actually need to boot from the CD to install. Just copy the all CD contents (including hidden files) onto your HDD and run the installer. This will not allow you to reformat though.

Alternatively, buy a new floppy drive, they are very cheap and easy to fit. Just remove 2 connectors from the existing one and plug them into the new with the case open and you don't even need to fit it!

The CD definately works because i have used it before on the same pc. Very strange that something should go wrong in a couple of months.
