Ok I've hit a problem. My 6 year old PC still has service pack 1. this is because over six years it has only been on the net a handful of times to register pieces of software. For a variety of reasons I didn't want it to get gummed up with stuff off the net as the speed it ran at was key for work.
Now I want to have it on the net. I would like to update to Service pack three but when I install SP 3, it tells me on reboot that I must install SPs 1.1 or 2 beforehand. Neither appear in single user format on Microsofts sit, so I got SP2 of a download site. Basically the same thing occured on reboot. A friend recommended using Windows Update in Internet Exporee as it would do the same thing for me and it did indeed find that the SP needed updating but everytime I try and install anything from Update it crashes, either Internet Exporer crashes, or Windows Update itself does if I use it from the Icon bar in the bottom left! Can anybody help me out!!!! Thanks!!! |

You can download SP2 direct from Microsoft here see if this helps.

Also it might have been a good idea to have directly installed the first couple service packs through internet explorer as well. That's probably the reason it crashes now.

Or doing a complete reformat and reinstall.
After 6 years I should think it would need it.
