get your friend to log on to his account, then go to my computer then drag the cd and dvd drives to the shared documents folder. now when you log on to your account next it should work.

Couldn't the friend also just change the permissions?

If ye are both administrators then ye should have the same permissions unless there is a special permission set up against your User account.

we do both have the same permission. thanks for the reply. i can see no reason why one is different. even setting up a new user makes no difference as it gives the appearance of being a guest account but its not
