Hi, can anyone please help. Recently I have been getting messages on screen saying Virtual Memory low. I've never had them in the past. My PC is a few years old but it is a Pentium 4 2.8 so still fairly quick. I have got 512meg memory which has been ok in the past. Recently I had to have new motherboard but dont think it would be to do with that. Would it be that 512meg is now getting close to the mark when running couple of programs at the same time. This message came up when I had three different things running at the same time. Hope someone can help. Thanks Shed.

Virtual memory has nothing to do with actual RAM.

Virtual memory is hard drive space being used as RAM, all you need to do is enlarge the allowed size of hard drive space to be used for virtual memory.

Windows XP

1.Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3.In the Performance pane, click Settings.
4.In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
5.In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
6.Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.
7.Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have looked at what you said and it says I am already using the maximum amount of memory. It says maximum 766 and that I am using 768. I have never changed this setting before so dont know if it's set from the hard drive or if it's set on the new motherboard.

The max is 4096. So up it a bit.

If it doesn't go higher your hard drive may be full so remove some old files/programs/games you no longer use.

You can also set windoze to manage virtual memory size, but sounds like you need more RAM in there.
