I am a total novice (in other words no techno talk will be understood) working on a purpose built, basic PC.
I am having constant virtual memory warnings popping up on the computer and am unable to work more than the internet at one time with no more than a couple of window up and running at once.
I use AOL and have recently gone wireless with a netgear wireless router modem box thing.
I have 24.32 GB of free space from a total capacity of 38.15 GB. I did a check on the computer and it said that I have 256 MB of memory. The virtual memory setting page has been set at a maximum of 382 by following instructions on microsoft help.
I use windows XP
Can amy one offer me advice on how to get my computer running effectively again. I have included all the information I think might be relevant but in truth have no idea so am happy to answer any questions in order to get this sorted.
All help and input welcome
Thank you
Anja

You need more memory I would say, 256mb of memory on XP is a bare minimum

Download CPU-Z from HERE that will tell you the type of memory you have, once we find out we can determine the rest

OK, it says that 256 MBytes SDRAM, is there any other information needed from the CPU-Z download?

What?

Virtual memory is just a setting in XP, there is no need to buy anything.

Your PC is using virtual memory(page file on the hard drive)because you have such a small amount of system memory(256MB).
So either buy more system memory or increase the size of the page file. From your post it looks as if you have already increased the size of the page file to the recommended size and you are still getting nagged about not having enough so buying more system memory is good advice. You can of course increase the size of the page file further but if you want better performance buy more system memory,256MB is pretty low another 256MB wouldnt be too expensive.

i suggest you to put 1 gb or at least 512 mb for ur ram bt u need to knw wat is the version is it 100 or 133 (mostly new pc's is using 133) and one more thing try to check ur task manager wen u feel the computer is lagging and go to the tab performance.see if ur commit charge is bigger than ur physical memory. if yes than u should increase ur ram.
