Hi Guys,
going mad here.
Have just got a new laptop that came with Vista Home Premium.
This is my first experience of Vista..................andit's not going too well.
Have just loaded some anti-virus & anti spyware programmes and after running Spybot S&D it has identified 12 entries under the banner of PartnerBHO.
IT WON'T LET ME FIX SELECTED PROBLEMS !!!!
A) I am not the administrator. I AM. IT'S MY LAPTOP & no-one else has touched it &
B) The associated files are still in use (in memory).

What's going on ?? It's only been out of the box for one hour.
All the best,

Slime.

Right click on Spybot and select: "Run as Administrator" and see if that will let you fix it. But I would suggest asking on the Virus section of this forum and hear from one of the experts before you delete it.

Vista is a good program, you will however have some problems learning how to do some things as they have changed from the way XP worked.

Thanks Bubba,
but is there a way of setting myself as administrator 'globally' ?
I mean over my whole laptop, rather than individual programmes.

Yeah there is in Control Panel, I'll let you find it though because if you've just got it there's a million and one things you'll want to personalise.

I'll find it anyway though so if you can't get it I can point you in the right direction
EDIT:
Actually I think I'm getting confused. You can disable UAC in user accounts, thats the annoying blue windows.

However I don't think you can stop the yellow administrator ones.. they're not common though, it's only for programs that delve deep in system files.

Follow this link and see if it's what you are looking for slime: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67567-administrator-account.html?filter[11]=User Accounts

There is a "hidden" admin account in Vista, this tutorial tells you how to get to it........
