Not really sure where this should go, seeing as it's a network issue, but the fault lies in the OS.

I'm running windows vista ultimate and there appears to be a network problem. My Netgear WN111 wireless adapter will not connect to the wireless network even though it is in range.

Additional, vista reports that no protocols are installed for either the wired or wireless connections. Trying to install gives an access denied error.

I've really no idea what to do. Any help is much appreciated.

When did you buy the adapter... Are you using the latest Vista drivers?

I had that problem, i just connect it up by network cable, and ran Updates. Works a treat now.

I bought the card 3 days ago and as far as I'm aware, yes it's using the latest (supposedly)
vista compatible drivers.

I've a feeling the problem lies deeper in the OS though, surely I should be able to install TCP/IP V4 for the onboard ethernet?

EDIT: As far as I know, all available updates for vista are installed.

There is nothing wrong with it.

The problem lies with the settings. Everything set to default on the computer? Also you don't have Mac filtering on your WAP? Also have you checked if you have a WEP key etc.

No, it is like that, but the only button available is "Install". "Uninstall" and "Properties" are greyed out, regardless of what is selected.

Clicking install offers the choice of client, service or protocol to install. Clicking any of these give "Cannot install requested feature. The error is: access is denied.2

I think they are greyed out and non-selectable as your adapter is not installed properly, thus making the options irrelevant.

Well that means that the onboard is not installed correctly, yet that works.

Do you think I should take it back to the shop?

If it is brand new and has a warranty then that might be a simple solution.
