My daughters laptop is having a problem. When started it looks like it' s loading Vista then jumps to a screen that says 'configuring updates 0% completed' it sits there for a minute or so and then says its shutting down and reboots itself and goes through the same process again and again. She says she hasn't downloaded anything, is it just a windows update?
I've tried rebooting in safe mode but no luck, it just ends up at the same place. I've also tried the system repair option but it didn't find anything. Is there any way of creating a recovery disk that I can boot from.
I do have access to another laptop running Vista, if there's something I create from that.

Both Acer Extensa 7220

Neither laptop came with a disk

I've tried Startup Repair logged in on my daughters account, but it didn't find anything. I don't know the admin password, I've tried using my daughters one on th eoff chance that they were the same but no luck. It says there are no restore points when I select System Restore, but that could be bacause im not logged in as admin

Hmmmm. most Acer Laptops come with software installed, that allows you to create your own Recovery CD.

If both machines are the same, you should be able to create a Recovery CD on your Laptop and use this on your daughter's.

Look in the manual/documentation for the procedure, or look in Start/All Programs and look for the appropriate program.

Your other oprion is to contact Acer, but they will probably charge you for it.

Give Acer support a ring ..... they are (despite popular belief) quite helpful.

Is there nothing in the manual/documentation ?
