Vista re install with old serial?

hello all
hope someone could help me
well my girlfriend got her laptop from america and we live in uk
the laptop was brand new from a shop.she has no disks for it and i was thinking what if she needs to re install her vista in the future for what ever reason how would we go about this? i no i can download vista from Microsoft website can i simply just download her version ov vista..burn to cd with iso and input her serial number from the back of her laptop?

Should be able to, so long as the version you get on CD matches her license version. ie: Home, Home Premium, Ultimate etc.
