Default Vista repair

just a quicky, my misses laptop has basically died, cant boot it and if it does it either freezes or gives horrible constant beeps

im thinking either motherboard problem or OS problem

im gonna try a vista repair to decide the final problem, the question is....

will a repair wipe all her files, if so anyway i can remove those files before i repair it, im sure i read a repair wont touch anything bar the OS and that i can also do a start-up repair, either way, are her files safe?

If you boot of the Vista CD it will automatic try and fix boot issue, if that doesn't work you can do system restore from the CD too.

When you boot click to install then on the second screen down the bottom will be repair my computer option.

A system restore should only touch the core files and any software added, not personal files like pics and word docs.

It sounds like you know what you're doing, but I came across this a little while back, which you may find useful, if only as a memory jogger.
