Vista Ultimate Install error Hello, I'm a bit new to vista and have an intermediate, knowledge of PC's. I recently built the system I'm using. I installed Windows XP as my initial OS...and from there partitioned 2 drives using Norton's Partition Magic...my C: is my local XP drive...and I partitioned the G: Drive as my Vista drive. The C: is a primary partition and the G: is logical. I'd like to do a dual boot....
I have another Hard drive installed in my system which was taken from an old Dell I had, and is strickly used for transfering old data i need onto my new drives.
Anyway, I've installed Vista once before and It worked fine...although after installing I did not recieve the option anywhere during the boot process to boot to vista...so naturally, i thought i missed something and decided to reformat the drive I installed Vista to. After doing so, i started the install again, and now after selecting what drive i'd like to install vista to during installation, I'm immediately presented with an error. The error states that it cannot assign a drive letter to disk 0.
this's where i'm stuck...if Vista is talking about the Disk 0 that it recognizes when it gives me the selection screen...it's referring to my old Dell drive...which is very odd as I specifically instructed it to install Disk 1 partition 2 G: Vista.
I've tried reformatting the G: Vista drive....i've tried changing it's drive letter...i've tried switching it from a logical drive to a primary, and everytime i attempt the install...i'm again, presented with the same error. Any suggestions? |
