hey,
since im goin to build my first computer. i need suggestions on what os to get. i thought bout sticking with xp but im not sure. this computer will be built to do gaming but it is still a computer that i will use for my usual tasks as well. what should i get and what is the best price?

I'd go Vista too. But it's primarily dependent on your budget as you'll need to spend that bit more to get the same performance from your pc because Vista is more resource hungry.

MS are going to be supporting XP well into 2009 in Europe, they're just not selling oem or retail copy's of XP anymore so you're now dependent on a vendor's existing stock if you want that as your o.s. SP3 for XP is also due out this year.

It does, but it's not as stable as DX9.

You could always get XP then upgrade to Vista in about a year when it is more stable. That's what my plan is.

to do that is costing more money though

i mean is labeled as unstable, but my gaming is perfect, along with all software i use

plus theres service pack 1 on the way,

id say vista

vista is shiny ! and newer, when buy xp then spend more on vista when you could save your self a few quid and get vista off the bat

If you already have XP .... there aint really that much Vista has to offer you that justifies the extra money to upgrade, other than prettiness IMO. So save your bucks.

If not and you need to buy, then I guess Vista is the way to go.
