Me again :o, Following my recent trouble with XP it got me thinking. What is Safe Mode? All I noticed was the screen resolution was different and the wallpaper had gone!! But why will safe mode work when normal mode won't?

Sorry if it's a silly question, I did try searching the forum but no answer!

Hi shroomo, there is no silly questions :)

Safe Mode is Windows at its minimum only the base functions are loaded (and very good for running Anti Virus and Spyware Scans) screen resolution is at windows default and Safe Mode is useful for loading some applications that don't like Anti Virus applications running at load.

Well safe mode is useful when your system have a problem. In safe mode you can only use few basic function and all of your features as you mention will turn off to repair your system.

Ok, so if (like what happened recently) windows wont load up normally and it crashes then upon restart it asks if I want to go to safe mode, what should / can I do in safe mode to find / fix the problem? apart from run virus check as I found that out already! (It didn't find anything)

Thanks for clearing up the 'what is safe mode' question though guys+gals.

Say you just installed a snappy new graphics card or a new program and there seems to be a problem with it, with Safemode you can uninstall it without problem.
Base video will be running only that's why you see a large blocky horrible GUI.
You can go back to "Last known good configuration".
Run the system from a Command Prompt, (No GUI) a bit similar to Dos except all platforms run on NTFS after Windows ME.
Have a look at what Microsoft have to say paying particular attention to the links further down.

Safe mode is useful when windows is not loading properly. The option comes on screen when there are problems in loading properly.
