I like the extra condition there. I thought I was running XP Pro beta...in fact I am sure I am, after 3 service packs and hundreds of updates, so I beg to differ, sir!

Hi PC WhizzKid,

My name is Ron, and I’m part of the Windows Outreach Team.

Here’s a pretty good explanation (in plain English) for your mum:

Windows 7 is the upcoming version of the Microsoft Windows operating system after the current Windows Vista. Here’s a link to the Windows 7 page with lots of information: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx.

Right now, Windows 7 is in the Beta testing stage. This means that users are testing out the new OS before it becomes available for purchase. This is a way for engineers to see how the OS works in real-life computing scenarios. Engineers will be able to use the feedback they receive from Beta testers to tweak the software, giving eventual buys of the software a better product.

Hope this helps your mum understand what’s going on in the Windows 7 world!

Cheers,
Ron

I have seen lots of posts, on my travels, on various forums from new members, such as JohnH WINDOWS TEAM, RegL WINDOWS TEAM etc., but I have never seen any of them reply to a response from a Forum Member, or make more than one post.

So RonS, if you are a real person and not a bot, please put me out of my misery and post a reply

Hmm the Microsoft bloke has a @live.com email address, so I think he is slightly legit.

Hey guys,
I assure you, I’m a real-live, breathing, eating person here hacking away at the keyboard. I’m part of an outreach team that does simply that – we outreach to Windows users on forums and whatnot.
Also, I thought I gave myself a little legitimacy when I explained something in plain English rather than hyped-up bot speak, right?
Regardless, I’m here to help, so feel free to reach out through a direct message. In the mean time, I’ll be around - not on the Linux forums trying for converts, Mike0001 : )
Cheers,
Ron
