| Ok, I want an angry rant, aswell as some constructive criticism. Just bought a new laptop, turn it on, first time and I get all these "REGISTER YOUR DETAILS!" "REGISTER THIS REGISTER THAT!" "FREE TRIAL!" "ENTER MORE DETAILS FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER!!!" Turns out I can't exit these programs, I don't have the option, well thank you you corporate bastards, want my details for your mailing list? So, to fix this I just go about uninstalling everything that annoyed me... OH WAIT! IT'S VISTA! Of course, that brilliant operating system that as soon as Windows 7 comes out everyones just going to remember as a colossal Microsoft/Bill Gates fail. I've been running XP the past couple of years after an unfavourable spell with Vista. Now I'm back with it and I hate it. I uninstall these register and get a trial programs only to be prompted to reboot. I do so and guess what IT WON'T SHUT DOWN! It's been on the shutting down screen for half an hour. Brilliant, just brilliant. Within 2 powering ups of my brand new laptop, Vista won't shut down. And not only that, it's making it very difficult for me to get rid of the 90% of bullshit programs I don't need, not only that but there's a million icons in the taskbar and the majority don't have the option to not be there, I just have to close them down everytime I start up. Well thank you Microsoft for such a terrible OS which I have no choice but to use until October. I'm looking forward to Windows 7, I know nothing about it, haven't read a thing or looked into it at all, I just know that it has got to be better than this piece of crap. We're all gonna look back on it in years to come and say "How much effort and how terrible was Vista?", and usually people here say "We'll look back and laugh at how terrible it was", no, we won't laugh. We'll just grimace, I hope when Windows 7 goes on a mass scale that every copy of Vista gets destroyed and written out of history so know one ever has the misfortune of knowing it existed. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Thank you. |

| Way to blame the OS for trialware bloat which has existed on every OS since the AOL links in Win95. Flatten and reinstall like most of us do (or make a more thorough examination of Startup and Add/Remove) and I doubt you'll have any issues.

| Reformat the drive, reinstall Vista from the disk. Sometimes OEMs bundle in just their crappy "recovery disks", but sometimes they'll give you full Windows CDs or at least "recovery disks" without the garbage bloatware.

| or, as it sounds like you'd prefer to do, format and install XP. the rant was quite entertaining, however. :P |

| It's the manufacturer you want to blame for all that crap, not Microsoft. Vista doesn't come bundled with bloatware, the OEM bundles it. Reformat a clean copy and you will have no problems at all.

| I was considering installing XP but then that would undermine the specs of the the laptop. XP can only run so fast can't it? And I don't feel too confident doing all this, I'm always paranoid something will go wrong. Having said that though 2 boots and I've already had to vent my anger. The manufacturer has a deal too so that when Windows 7 is released I just put in my details and get it for a knock off price and if I downgraded to XP I don't know if it'd still be valid. And for the record, yes the bloatware is the manufacturer, but the fact it won't shut down on it's first boot is entirely Vista's fault, that rotating blue disc drives me insane, I've already changed the mouse pointer so that it is a timer cos that blue thing drives me nuts. |

| I'm not a lover of Vista and I eagerly await Windows 7, however Windows 7 is based on the Vista kernal and is very similar in many ways, so dont expect it to look/feel like XP ... it wont.

I have been using Vista Ultimate for a few years now and have to say that after the initial tweaks and turning off all the unnecessary rubbish, it works pretty well and, If anything, it is more stable than XP. I am also running Windows 7 RC on another box, which looks very similar to Vista and is also very stable. The main difference with Windows 7 is they have taken out a lot of the more intrusive stuff (handholding) and it runs a bit faster, but as I said it, looks very similar to Vista.
