i pass the bios then blank screen.. no windows loading..dam put the harddrive back in the pc it come out of and it booted to windows fine.. so i guess it wont work..ill have to re install the os if i want to do the change

thats a shame

unless theres a way of using your windows cd to get to CMD, would i be right in thinking its something to do with the boot partition?

Yeah, use the windows CD and see if you can find something in the command line. You might well be able to "refresh" windows and get basic drivers for your new stuff.

When I had Vista on my laptop, it was able to boot in my mates desktop (up until it had the problem I was trying to fix, different story) and seemed to work fine. He changed motherboards and XP couldn't detect his PS/2 ports and a few other odds and ends so I'm not 100 sure but the cmd solves everything I'm pretty sure.
